Compact and powerful, the Doberman is athletic, alert, and demonstrates amazing endurance. They are aristocratic and elegant and make devoted and fearless companions. They are fantastic watch dogs and suspicious of strangers. Due to their adventurous spirit, they enjoy mental challenges. They are best suited to suburban or country living, but can do OK in apartments if amply exercised.

Named after Louis Dobermann, a German who developed the breed as a guard dog in the late 1800s. Known as a "police dog" for its duty in WWI.

  

Large Breed. Weight: 60-75 lbs. Height at the shoulders: 24-28 in.


Dobermans need vigorous daily exercise.

Short coats require little grooming. Average shedders.

Good with children only if raised with them from puppyhood.

Usually gets along with other animals.

 
Wobblers Syndrome and cardiomyopathy.
