Sweet and loving, in spite of their sturdy, muscular appearance, devoted, and eager to please, peaceful, very gentle and patient with children. They will defend their family if provoked. The Bulldog needs people and makes an excellent companion. Suited for suburban or apartment living.

Bulldogs were developed in England to bait bulls, which was outlawed in 1835. Due to the termination of bull baiting and the many difficulties in breeding this breed was very close to extinction at one time. Fortunately lovers of the breed saw the breed as something much greater and began breeding them as companions.

  

Medium Breed. Weight: 40-50 lbs. Height at the shoulders: 14-17 in.


English Bulldogs require moderate exercise.

A short, smooth coat requires some grooming. Average shedders.

Excellent with children.

Generally good with other pets.

 
Breathing and whelping difficulties, most breeders insist on Cesarian delivery. Patellar luxation, joint problems, skin conditions, and overheating should be monitored.
