A breed that possesses one of the keenest noses in the world, the German Shepherd is a powerful, protective, and loyal pet. They bond closely with family and make fantastic watch dogs. They need ample space and exercise.

Originating in Germany from crosses of shepherd breeds, the original "drug dogs" have proven to be adept at police or protection work.


  

Large Breed: Weight: 55-90 lbs. Height at the shoulders: 22-26 in.


German Shepherds require regular exercise and daily mental challenges.

Bathing is minimal, some say as little as bi-yearly is adequate. Regular brushing is required. Seasonal heavy shedders.

Excellent with children.

Shepherds are territorial and are sometimes protective of family pets.

 

Hip dysplasia, chronic eczema, flea allergies, keratitis, and gastric disorders.
