Highly trainable, gentle, and friendly, the Golden Retriever is one of the world's favorite family pets. They are alert, eager-to-please, and need a lot of affection. They can be happy in apartments if sufficiently exercised, but are best suited to suburban or country living.

Developed in the British Isles, the Golden Retriever has been used for bird hunting, tracking, and narcotics. It is also known as a guide for the blind and a therapy dog.
