Courageous and extremely loyal and obedient, the Great Pyrenees is highly protective and makes a natural guard dog. They are gentle and affection with loved ones and devoted to the family even if self-sacrifice is required. They are independent and love to work. They are best suited to suburban or country living and prefer to cooler climates.

An ancient breed, the Pyrenees is believed to have been developed earlier than 2000 BC in Asia or Siberia. Once in Europe, they lived in the mountains until the Middle Ages when they became guard-dogs.

  

Very Large Breed. Weight: 90-125 lbs. Height at the shoulders: 27-32 in.


Great Pyrenees need moderate exercise.

double-coats require regular grooming. Seasonally heavy shedders.

Good with children when raised with them from puppyhood.

Generally get along well with other pets. Usually loves cats.

 
Hip dysplasia, skin conditions, and epilepsy.
