Gentle, responsive, and affectionate, the charming Havanese enjoys pleasing people and makes an excellent family pet. They are social and cheerful and usually get along with everyone, including other pets. Intelligent and easily trained, they are well suited to either apartment or country living.

A member of the Bichon family, they originated in pre-Christian Europe as lap-dogs and were later developed in Cuba.

  

Small Breed. Weight: 8-14 lbs. Height at the shoulders: 8.5-12 in.


The Havanese needs daily exercise.

Long, whispy coats require regular grooming. Light shedders.

Great with children-they're small, but sturdy.

Generally get along well with other pets.

 
Eye problems (like cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy), patella luxation, deafness, and chondrodysplasia.
