Graceful and elegant, the Italian Greyhound makes an excellent companion. They are affectionate, intelligent, playful, and naturally well-behaved. They must be trained and handled gently and have an aversion to roughhousing. They are well suited to either apartment or suburban living.

A similar breed has been found in ancient Egyptian tombs. They were later developed by the Romans and then became popular with the 16th-century European nobility.
