Gentle and loving, the Old English Sheepdog is a large and lovable teddy-bear breed. They are friendly, adaptable, faithful, protective, and make excellent family companions. They are intelligent and excellent with children. They can do well in suburban or apartment living if amply exercised.

Possibly developed through crosses with Bearded Collies and Russian, Baltic, and French breeds. In England, used primarily to drive sheep and cattle to the marketplace.

  

Large Breed. Weight: 70-90 lbs. Height at the shoulders: Over 21 in.


Sheepdogs need moderate exercise.

If kept in full, their thick, shaggy coat requires daily grooming. Many keep trimmed short. Very Light shedders.

Excellent with children.

Generally good with other pets.

 
Hip dysplasia and cataracts.
