Small and sturdy, and make excellent companions. They are courageous, bold, and very loving with their owners-but they can be suspicious of strangers. They are well-suited to apartment or suburban living and are easily trained.

A favorite of the Chinese Emperor's court until 1860, they were sometimes known as "sleeve dogs" because they fit into the sleeves of courtier robes.

  

Small Breed. Weight: Up to 16 lbs. Height at the shoulders: 8-10 in.


Pekingese are not high-strung and do not need a lot of exercise.

A long, straight, full coat requires regular brushing. Average shedders.

Not recommended for young children.

Generally does well with other pets.

 
Eye, spine, knee, and respiratory problems.
