One of the most intelligent and trainable breeds, the elegant Poodle loves to play, run, and swim. They make excellent family pets and love being around people. They are well suited to most climates and can live in apartments if sufficiently exercised.

Most likely a descendent of early German water retrievers. Gained much of their popularity as a circus performer in France. The height of the adult dog determines the class division.
The Toy is 10 in. or under at the highest point of the shoulders.
The Miniature is 10-15 in. or under at the highest point of the shoulders.
The Standard is over 15 in. at the highest point of the shoulders.
Poodles require vigorous daily exercise to keep them content.
Wiry, curly, dense coats require regular grooming. Very light shedders.
Excellent with children.
Generally good with other pets.
Gastric torsion, epilepsy, hip dysplasia, running eyes, and von Willebrand's disease.
Poodles dislike being alone and need and enjoy a lot of human companionship.
