An excellent companion for an involved and experienced owner/trainer. Their protective nature makes the Rottweiler one of the most popular family guardians and companions. Courageous, devoted, and confident, this powerful breed needs ample space and exercise. They are highly trainable, but need careful and firm discipline.

Named for the German town of Rottweil where the breed was used by butchers to drive herds of cattle. After the advent of railroads, mid 1800's breeding almost stopped. They became guard and police dogs in the early 1920s which retrieved the breed.

  

Large Breed. Weight: 90-115 lbs. Height at the shoulders: 22-27 in.


Rottweilers need vigorous daily exercise.

Medium, dense coats require little grooming. Average shedders.

Good with children only if raised with them from puppyhood.

Generally good with other animals if raised with them from puppyhood.

 
Bloat, parvo virus, and hip dysplasia.
