Gentle, peaceable, and dignified, the Samoyed is a lively, powerful Arctic dog. They are devoted and loyal and make excellent companions. Easy-going, playful, and friendly, this highly intelligent breed is excellent with children. They can be resistant, but will respond to patient training. They can do well in suburban or apartment living if amply exercised. They prefer cooler climates. (pronounced sam ee yed)

Named after the Samoyedes, a nomadic Siberian tribe, and used for hunting, herding, and bed-warming. Used as sled-dog in late 1800s.
