Alert, lively, and bold, Shiba Inus are independent but loving and they make fantastic family pets. They are courageous, playful, and very good as children's companions. They can be reserved with strangers. They will adapt to apartment living if amply exercised.

The Shiba is an ancient Asian breed whose ancestors were probably brought to Japan thousands of years ago.

  

Small Breed. Weight: 17-23 lbs. Height at the shoulders: 13-17 in.


Shiba Inus need moderate daily exercise

A harsh, straight double-coat requires very little grooming. Seasonally heavy shedders.

Good with children.

Generally get along well with other dogs; do not trust them with non-canine pets.

 
Hip dysplasia and patellar luxation.
